When I was first diagnosed with fructose malabsorption I remember ordering calamari (unbattered of course) and getting really sick. My tummy was in knots and I had no idea why. It turned out it was the tartare sauce that upset my tummy that day. Unbeknownst to me, it contains large amounts of onion and garlic. It goes to show how careful you have to be when ordering out. Nowadays, if I don’t know much about a sauce or condiment that’s included in a dish, I look up recipes on my phone and sift through the ingredient list to check that it’s safe. This saves me later regretting my choices.
Despite my bad reaction, I actually really missed tartare sauce. I was therefore absolutely over the moon when my Mum made her own version of it for me which was both onion and garlic-free. I thought you would appreciate it if I shared the recipe with you all, so here it is. I hope you enjoy it 🙂
